What is a Settlement Mill?

The term Mill is used in the legal community to describe a law firm that is operated with an unhealthy emphasis on profit by accepting as many clients as possible. These firms generally have an extremely high number of open cases and lack the staff necessary to provide their clients with the care and attention they deserve. The clients of these firms are left with an unprepared attorney; inadequate representation; lack of communication with the attorney; and unfavorable results in their cases. Many times, the Mill will churn as many billable hours from the client just before withdrawing from the case once the client has run out of money.

At Daniele Johnson & Associates, we are able to offer individualized attention to each of our clients by intentionally keeping our case load low. As a result, we simply know are cases better than our opponents. The knowledge of the intricate details of our cases is the reason we have such a high success and client approval rate.

We utilize the same philosophy in our guardian ad litem appointments. We understand that high conflict custody cases are emotionally and financially draining for the families. These cases must be investigated thoroughly, but brought to a resolution as expeditiously as possible to allow the family to begin to heal. Accordingly, typically do not have more than five open guardian cases at one give time. To do otherwise is simply not in the best interest of children.
