According to the Georgia Commission on Family Violence, Georgia Coalition Against Domestic Violence, 962 Georgia citizens lost their lives due to domestic violence in the last seven years. Georgia was recently ranked 10th in the nation for its rate of men killing women by the Violence Policy Center. In 43% of the cases studied through Georgia’s Domestic Violence Fatality Review Project, children were present during the domestic violence killing.
Many women feel compelled to remain in an abusive marriage because they feel trapped. Often times, the abuser has emotionally devastated the victim to the point that she lives in a perpetual state of anxiety, financial uncertainly and fear. The first step in regaining your strength is obtaining knowledge and information about how you and your children can escape the cycle of violence by consulting with an attorney.
I recognize that the most dangerous time for a victim is when she is attempting to leave her abuser. This is why I spend a significant amount of time with my client developing a safe exit plan for her. I also recognize that many women can’t afford to even meet with an attorney because her abuser has total control over the marital finances. I want to help as many women out of this situation as possible. Accordingly, I am willing to discount my consultation fee for women seeking assistance from a domestic violence attorney.
The message I would like to send to these women is that they are not alone; there is a way out; and they deserve better.
